Leif H. Nelson of 430 Winthrop St. Taunton passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Morton Hospital. He was 88 years old. He was born in Nantucket and raised in Noank, Conneticut. He was the husband of the late June Nelson (Harris) and the father of Karen Watts of Missouri, Walter Nelson of Taunton, Wayne Nelson of Taunton, Gary Nelson of Florida, Gene Nelson of North Dighton, Daryl Nelson of Arizona and the late Mark Nelson of Taunton. He was the brother of Sue Gray of Conneticut, Nicholas Nelson Jr. of North Carolina, and the late Walter Nelson, Amy Rochelle and Roy Nelson. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and one great great grandchild.
Leif was a veteran of the Armies Eighth Air Force in WWII earning the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as four Air Medals, He later served with the Second Infantry Division during the the Conflict earning the Combat Infantryman Badge before retiring with 23 Years of active duty service. He also owned and operated Winthrop Electronic Repair and in his later years worked for the Taunton Gazette. He enjoyed sailing and was the past commander of the Taunton Yacht Club.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held in Plymouth, Ma. on March 31st.
