Obituary

FALL RIVER… John S. Furtak, 95, of Fall River died comfortably at home, Thursday, February 9, 2012.
He was the widower of Mary (Thomas) Furtak.
He was born in Fall River a son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Zmuda) Furtak and had been a lifelong resident of this city.
He was employed as a printer for the former The River Edge Mill retiring in 1978.
Mr. Furtak served in the United States Army Air Corps during W.W. II where he received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with seven Battle Stars, prior to that he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an avid bowler and past Secretary of the Walko Bowling League. He enjoyed cycling, working outside as well as woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Brenda Furtak of N.J. and Teresa E. Berard of Fall River, a sister Helen Beben of Fall River, 2 grandchildren: Jason Sardinha of Japan and Heidi Sardinha of Shrewsbury, MA, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Genevieve Kozik and Stanley Furtak.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday at 9AM from the BOYKO MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 709 Broadway, Fall River followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Stanislaus Church, Rockland Street, Fall River. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hour will be Monday 5 – 8 PM. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be sent in his memory to the charity of your choice.
