Swampscott: Marion J. (Hagerup) Jensen, age 91, died on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Bertram House of Swampscott. She was the cherished wife of 66 years of the late Harold C. Jensen.
Born in Watertown and spending her childhood in Vassalboro, ME, she was the daughter of the late Hans Christian and Llewella (Jones) Hagerup. Formerly of Waltham and Boxboro, while raising her family, she worked part time as a librarian. Mrs. Jensen was a dedicated charitable volunteer for many community causes. She spent many hours quilting and doing hand crafts for various fund raising events. She was a charter member of the New England Quilters Guild and member of several quilters’ associations. She recently moved to Swampscott to be near her daughter.
She was the loving mother of Karen L. Wakefield of Nahant, and Karl H. Jensen of Derry, NH, and dear sister of Erlon T. Hagerup of Tennessee, V. Irene Teter and Mildred Richardson both of Maine. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers Donald, Albert and George Hagerup.
An informal gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the library of the Bertram House, 565 Humphrey St., Swampscott, MA 01907. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
