Obituary

Mr. Richard E. Enos, of Taunton, died Tuesday, February 7 in the Caritas-Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Therese M. (Morin) Enos. He was born 84 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Joseph and Filomena (Mattos) Enos. He was educated in Taunton, having graduated from Taunton High School, and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for 32 years by the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant, retiring as a foreman. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II aboard the USS Borie. A well known umpire and sports official, he was a member of the Southeastern Mass. Baseball Umpires Association, the International Athletic Association of Basketball Officials Board # 30, and the Southeastern Mass. Football Officials Association. He served as a baseball, softball, football and basketball umpire/referee, officiating at many middle school, high school, Pop Warner, C.Y.O., and amateur leagues in the Taunton and Foxboro areas. Richard was also a member of the Portuguese-American Civic Club, and was a Life Member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, socializing with his many friends at the Colonial Donut Shop, attending his grandsons’ various sporting events, and spending time with his family, especially the Sunday Night Dinners. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 3 daughters: Lynda Coakley of Florida, Richalie Lima and her fiance Billy Preti of Taunton, and Lisa Barboza and her husband, Robert of Lakeville; 1 brother: Joseph Enos of Chatanooga, Tenn.; 3 grandchildren: Brandon Lovett, Matthew Lima, and Austin Barboza, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was also the grandfather of the late Michael Richard Coakley, and was the brother of the late Raymond Enos and Virginia Inman.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, February 11 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
