WORCESTER-Orphelena “Lena” (Hancock) Allen, 92, of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 1st in her home. Her husband of 68 years, Randolph Allen died in 2010. She leaves two nieces, Marchetta Alexander and Ahondryea C. Brooks both of Roanoke, VA.
She was born in Roanoke, VA the daughter of Beulah H. Crouse, and moved to Worcester with her husband in 1943. Mrs. Allen retired in 1980 from Rutland State Hospital where she had worked for fifteen years as a nurse’s aide. She had previously worked for five years as a nurse’s aide at Worcester City Hospital. She was a long time active member of the John Street Baptist Church and worked with the Usher Board and as program coordinator. Mrs. Allen served as Past Matron times two, of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Ancient Matron of the Sarah R. Hall Court in the Heroines of Jericho, Past Loyal Lady Ruler of Prince Hall Post Assembly #2, Honorary Past Perfect Matron of Ish Sodi Court # 5, Ladies of the Circle of Perfection-Member of Prince Grand O.E.S.
Her funeral is Friday, February 10th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral in the funeral home.
