Obituary

Wilfred Joseph Aubut, 87, of New Bedford, died Monday February 6, 2012 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was the husband of Helen (Racine) Aubut.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Henri and Alphonsine (Poyant) Aubut and Noella (Dessert) Aubut, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Aubut was formerly employed as a dispatcher and ticket agent with the New Haven/Conrail Railroad until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, and was a former Eucharistic Minister at St. Anne's Church. A devout Catholic, he listened to WPLM radio and said two rosaries daily for his family - one in English and one in French. He was a recipient of the Marian Medal in 1994.
Mr. Aubut served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal for injuries sustained in battle. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Freetown Post 6643.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Goodyear Seniors, on the Board of Directors at St. Anne Credit Union, and a member of Lake Fairways Chorale in Fort Myers, FL. Mr. Aubut enjoyed his second home in Florida with his best friend and wife of 65 years. He enjoyed dancing, cards, dominoes, his many friends and his precious family.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Wilfred Aubut and his wife Rosemary of North Fort Myers, FL, and Richard Aubut and his wife Joann of Dedham; 2 daughters, Gloria Craven and her husband Michael of Medford, and Helene Jasmin and her husband Mark of Franklin; a brother, Henry Aubut and his wife Patricia of Franklin; a sister, Alice Gagne and her husband Roger of Hudson; 9 grandchildren, Kathy Leavitt and her husband Brian, Christopher Aubut and his wife Allicyn, Jameson and Taylor Aubut, James-Michael and Daniel Craven, Kate Stein and her husband Corey, Laura Jasmin, and David Jasmin and his wife Maggie; and 5 great-grandchildren, Michael, Hannah and Sophia Leavitt, Nolan and Luke Stein.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, February 9th at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph-St. Therese Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 8th from 4-8 PM.
