Obituary

WORCESTER-Carl J. Kennen, 85, formally of 35 Montague Street died Thursday, October 18th in UMass Memorial Healthcare-Memorial Campus after an illness. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Bernice L. (Blood) Kennen; 2 daughters, Janet Evans of Harwich and Judith Apple of Nevada City, CA; a sister Emma Caminski in California and many nephews and nieces. 3 brothers Albert Kennen, Reno Kennen, Winthrop Kennen and a sister, Edith Briggs all predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester son of Henry R. and Edith (Carlson) Kennen and lived in Leicester many years before returning to Worcester. He was a graduate of Leicester High School and Worcester Polytechnic Industrial School of Management. Mr. Kennen was a World War II veteran serving as a medic in the European Theatre with the 14th Tank Battalion, 9th Armored Division. He had been employed by Coes Knife Company for 43 years retiring in 1980 as superintendent. He was a member of Bethany Christian United Parish and was former chairman of the Board of trustees. Mr. Kennen served as Past Master of the Isaiah Thomas Masonic Lodge, a trustee of the Worcester Masonic Temple for many years and the service committee. He was also a member of the Hiram Retirees Club and was a Past President of the Tatnuck Island Club. He was an avid Gardener.

A graveside service will be held Monday October 22nd at 12:00 Noon in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center Activities Fund, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
