Obituary

George W. Johanson, 88, a 48-year resident of Winchester, passed away Feb. 6, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Helen (Beauchemin) Johanson. Born, raised and educated Boston, he was the son of the late George F. and Mary Johanson. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Johanson was an experimental machinist employed by the U.S. Government for many years. In his spare time, he was a member of the MIT Model Plane Flying Club, and also enjoyed fishing in West Harwich on Cape Cod and loved gardening flowers. In addition to his wife, Mr. Johanson is survived by his children: Susan Newman and her husband Barry of Coral Spring, FL, Kristen Johanson of New York City, Elizabeth Johanson of Boca Raton, FL, Peter of Dorchester, Erica Beal and her husband Richard of Hingham and David and his wife Kim of St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., and is further survived by his grandchildren: Matthew, Alex, Kate and Sarah Newman, Perry, Max and Nick Beal and Dante Colicchio. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Sat. Feb. 11 at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Eulalia’s Church 50 Ridge St., Winchester, MA 01890 at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Fri. 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. If desired, donations in George’s memory may be made to St. Eulalia’s Church.
