Rev. Arthur W. Forrester, PhD., of Danvers, age 86, quietly passed away on January 30, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of Rachel (Johnson) Forrester. Born in Brooklyn, New York on January 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and May (Slafer) Forrester. Arthur served his country as a signalman aboard the U.S.S. Portsmouth in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged.
Besides his wife Rachel, he is survived by two children, Jay Forrester and his wife Caroline of Ipswich and Heidi Forrester of Gloucester, two grandsons, Jack and Dylan Forrester, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife Trudy (Clark) Forrester and his sister Dorothy Jensen. The family has lost a loving husband, father and grandfather. The world has lost a man whose compassion and commitment to the well being of others will never be forgotten.
Arthur was a graduate of Adelphi College and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned his BA and BD degrees. He also earned an STM and a PhD in Psychology at Boston University. He taught at both under-graduate and graduate levels at Boston University, Gordon College, Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, and many other venues. He operated a private practice as a clinical psychologist at his offices in Hamilton and on Newbury Street in Boston. He was also a founding member of the Massachusetts Psychological Association.
An ordained Baptist Minister, he served as a chaplain to Aramco staff in Saudi Arabia between 1958 - 1962, as minister at Ogunquit, Maine Baptist Church, assistant/interim minister at Congregational Church in Hamilton, MA, and assisting minister at Community Covenant Church in Peabody, MA. He also served for many years as chaplain to the U.S.S. Portsmouth Association, and regularly attended their annual reunions.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11AM on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Community Covenant Church, 33 Lake St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, a fitting tribute would be donations in his name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Community Covenant Church, 33 Lake St., Peabody, MA, 01960.
