New Bedford - Alfred "Fred" J. Nunes, 78, of South Dartmouth, died on Saturday, March 27. He was the husband of Amelia "Mallie" L. (Pires) Nunes of South Dartmouth. He was the father of Michael D. husand of Carol A. Nunes of Berkely, Ma., Mark S. husband of Marta S. Nunes of Dartmouth Ma. Mr. Nunes was the grandfather of Derek M. Quirke of Berkley and Nicholas M. Nunes of Dartmouth. He was the brother of Domingo Nunes of Chicopee, Ma., Dorothy Sylvia of New Bedford, Ma. and Irene Gabriel of Georgia. Mr. Nunes has several nieces and nephews and several deceased sisters and brothers.
Mr.Nunes was in New Bedford. He was the son of the late Joaquim and Mary Nunes. He worked as a fork lift operator at Alden Corruated, New Bedford, Ma. Mr. Nunes was member of the Stackhouse St. Club, and he loved to play cards. He was in th U.S Navy as a Machinist Mate 3rd class during WWII, and was involved in the Normandy Invasion.
His funeral will be Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 8:45 A.M.from Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, N. Dartmouth. Relatives and friends are invited to Visiting Hours Tuesday March 30, 2004 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home..
