Hazel I. EGAN, 97, of Longwood Avenue, Providence, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Hebert’s Nursing Home in Smithfield. She was the wife of the late William J. Egan. They were married for 72 years before his death in 2010.
Born in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late George L. and Edna (White) Porter. She had previously lived in Providence.
Hazel was a floor lady for the J.V. Egan for 35 years until retiring. She was a member of Children of Mary Society, St. Augustine’s Church Rosary and Altar Society and Bowling League and was a 20 Week Club Captain. Hazel had made over 600 bonnets and blanket for the Kent County Hospital Nursery.
She is survived by her daughters: Patricia Manocchia and her husband, Ross of Greenville and Maureen Calise and her husband, Anthony of Narragansett, her grandchildren: Christopher, Julie, Andrea, Stacey, Kirsten and Cathy, her great grandchildren: Caroline, Jillian, Joel, Robert, James, Colin, Luke, Anthony, Gianna, Sofia and Zachary and her brothers; Earl Porter of Smithfield and Howard Porter of Middletown. She was the sister of the late George, Norman and Arthur Porter, Marian Duffy and Dorothy Johnson.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 AM from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
