Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Andreas, 79, of Groton, died Saturday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in East Hempstead, NY on April 19, 1924 the daughter of Andrew and Pauline (Adams) Groff. During World War II, she proudly served as a “Rose-the-Riveter” at Grumman Aircraft Corp.

A resident of Groton for 28 years, she was a communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church and Sacred Heart Church, and the Groton Senior Citizen Center. She was active with RSVP, Eugene O’Neill Theatre, Garde Arts Center, Mystic Community Center, Main Street of new London, SECT Chamber of Commerce, Girl Scouts of America, and was active with youth sports Programs in Groton and Long Island.

Betty was married to Herman O. Andreas in Hempstead on April 27, 1946. He died November 27, 1982.She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Kathleen Andreas of Saline, Mich; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen A. and Edward M. Havrilla, of Noank, 2 sisters, Evelyn Bonner of Hartford, NY and Lillian Lianzo of Las Vegas, NY, and 4 grandchildren, Kristin Havrilla Clarke, David Havrilla, Tara Medieros Byers and Derek Andreas.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 7pm. Burial will be at Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island NY.
