Obituary


Walter H. “Pops” Lewis age 89, of Brockton died Tuesday January 31, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband for 54 years of the late Sadie “Babe” (George) Lewis. Walter was born in Boston and raised in Randolph a son of the late Charles and Nellie (Crowley) Lewis and had resided in Brockton since 1952.
During WWII he served in the US Army communications corps and was stationed in the Pacific Rim. Walter retired from the Mass Lottery Commission after many years and previously worked at Avon Shoe.
Walter was an avid Red Sox fan and in his free time enjoyed wood crafts and teaching his grandchildren to drive. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle, patient and loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and little dog Foxy.
Walter is survived by his four children Debra Tinkham and her husband Paul of Halifax, Karen Antosca and her husband Robert of Plymouth, Lynn Spaulding and her husband Kenneth “Chip” of Middleboro and David Lewis of Brockton. He was affectionately called “Grumpie” by his nine grandchildren Charles and Susan Tinkham, Jennifer Benson, Michael and James Antosca, Joseph, Jeffrey and Edward Spaulding and Kristin Lewis. He also leaves five great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 4-8 pm with a Service of Incense at 6 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 10 am followed by the Service of the Divine Mysteries at St. Theresa Maronite Catholic Church at 11 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
