Clara Williams Yancey, 88, of Fernandina Beach, FL, (formerly of Fitzgerald) died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Acosta-Rua Center For Caring in Jacksonville, Florida.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 1 in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Alan Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Yancey was born December 29, 1923 in Fitzgerald to the late Thomas W. and Annie Belle Hadaway Harrell. She attended Fitzgerald High School and had lived the past three years in Fernandina Beach, FL. Mrs. Yancey was a homemaker and a former cashier for Allen’s Supermarket, Colonial Store and Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store. She was a member of Five Points Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach, FL and the Golden Band Sunday School Class and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. Mrs. Yancey enjoyed eating at Sonny’s Barbeque.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janice & George Berninger of Fernandina Beach, FL; son, Ronnie Williams of Fitzgerald; 2 step children, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry L. Williams and Lawrence A. Yancey and 1 brother, Robert Elam Harrell.
