Louis “Lou” D. Rizza, a long-time Medford resident died peacefully, January 27th, at the Mount Auburn Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 82.Lou was born in Boston,the son of the late Michael and late Angelina (Moncada) Rizza.
His family moved from the North End of Boston to Medford when he was a young boy. Lou served in the Army and the National Guard for 8 years. He was a longtime member of the Lawrence Light Brigade. He married Virginia “Ginny” Young, also from Medford and together raised 3 children. Lou dedicated over 39 years of his life to Boy Scout troop 71 from St. Clements Parish in Medford/Somerville, achieving the Catholic Church St. George award for his work. Lou and his older brother Sal Rizza owned Rizza Brothers Construction a long-time Medford business. But what Lou loved to do the most was share his love of woodworking, bicycling, gardening, card-playing and cooking with his family, friends and neighbors, especially his grandchildren.
The beloved husband of the late Virginia (Young) he was a devoted father to Michael L. Rizza and his wife Peggy Hannon-Rizza of Billerica, Robert Rizza and his wife Donna of Acton and David Rizza and his wife Patricia of Burlington. He was a loving grandfather to Andrew, Christopher, Bradley, Katlyn, Nicholas, Matthew and William. He was the dear brother of Salvatore Rizza of Florida, Anthony Rizza of Medford, Benito “Ben” Rizza of Dedham, and the late Lucy Pistritto and Bob Rizza.
Funeral services will held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford on Tuesday, January 31st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St. Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Monday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
