WORCESTER____Sophie L. (Orczyk) Karpawich, 94, of 18 Strathmore Rd., died Friday March 26 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center. 55 Lake Ave., North. Her husband of 25 years, Joseph Karpawich died on 1965.
She leaves a sister, Helen F. Zimkiewicz, two brothers, Walter Orczyk and Chester Orczyk, all of Worcester; nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces. Two brothers, Stanley Orczyk and Henry Orczyk died before her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Frances (Wisniewska) Orczyk and lived here all her life.
Mrs. Karpawich was a homemaker and was also a sales clerk for several years at the former Denholm & McKay Co. She enjoyed ceramics and crocheting. She was a member of Ascension Church.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday March 30 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Ascension Church, 40 Vernon St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday March 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
