Lawrence E. Mays, 82, of the Salem Community in Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Lovett, Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. and Rev. J.A. Clements officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 P.M. Monday.
Mr. Mays was born December 2, 1921, in Pulaski County, Georgia, to the late Arthur Lee Mays and Zada Lee Dawson Mays. He grew up on the family farm working hard. He was a retired mechanic with Wallace Chevrolet, retired owner and operator of Mays Body Shop and former employee of Harper Motor Lines. An active member of Salem Baptist Church, Mr. Mayes was a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.
Mr. Mays is survived by his wife: Evelyn Gibbs Mays, Ben Hill County, GA; daughter and son-in-law: Laura and Billy Trevena, Ben Hill County, GA; sister: Betty M. Arthur, Fitzgerald, GA; brother: C.H. Mayes, Macon, GA; several nieces and nephews.
