Obituary

Manchester- Edgar C. Wurtele, 93, died January 26, 2012 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home following a brief illness.
He was born in Manchester on June 11, 1918 the son of Arthur and Corinne (Gaudette) Wurtele. He had been a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from March of 1942 to October of 1945. He had 3 months of combat in Germany and also the Battle of the Bulge.
He was President and Treasurer of Manchester Coal & Oil Co.( now Dead River). He had been a charter member and director of the Better Business Bureau of NH, New England Fuel Institute, Finance Committee of St. Anthony Parish and Les Amis de St. Antoine Inc.. He also served as Loan Officer with NH Food Industry Credit Union, and Treasurer of the Manchester Petroleum Board of Trade and Better Home Heat Council. He was also a volunteer with the Manchester Parks and Recreation Activity Programs and Manchester Central High School Reunion Committee Class of 1936A. He held membership in the Knights of Columbus Council # 92.
Members of his family include his loving wife of 69 years, Blanche (Therrien) Wurtele of Manchester, 2 sons; Robert Wurtele and his companion Rita Moore of Manchester, Richard Wurtele and his wife Jeanne of Hooksett, 2 daughters; Claire Coderre and her husband Gus of Manchester, Janice Wurtele of Concord, 8 grandchildren, Debbie, Karen, Kristine, Kimberley, Lee, Justy, Stephanie, Abi, 12 great-grandchildren; one sister Edna Landry of Bedford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by 1 daughter, June Day, wife of Byron Day of Auburn on September 18, 2007, and two sisters, Marcelle Mason and May Brassard.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in St. Anthony Church of Padua. Committal prayers will follow in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum
