Obituary

UXBRIDGE: Stanley L. Johnson, 84 died peacefully on Friday January 20, 2012 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Corona, Long Island, New York on February 10, 1927 the son of the late John Johnson and Ester (Lundell) Johnson.
He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Irene (Fuchs) Johnson of Uxbridge formerly of Wayland. Loving father of Gregory J. Johnson and his wife Kathleen D. of Amherst, NH; Bruce E. Johnson of San Francisco, CA; and Keri L. Mitchell and her husband Stephen F. of Uxbridge. Cherished grandfather of Amanda Mitchell, Kierra Johnson, Brianna Johnson, Hayley Johnson and Jake Mitchell. Also survived by his brother Roland W. Johnson of Chatham, NJ.
Mr. Johnson had been a resident of Wayland for the past 55 years before moving to Uxbridge two years ago. He spent his formative years in Queens, New York and graduated from Newtown High School. He received his Masters in Physics from Columbia University and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He was associated for 38 years with the Raytheon Co. in the Development of the Patriot Missile Program. He served his country proudly during World War II with the United States Navy as a Radar Technician on the USS Palau. He was an active member of the American Legion and served as the Chaplain and Past Commander. He was also a member of the I.E.E.E. Upon his retirement from Raytheon he stayed active as an investment manager. He was an avid golfer and sailor and was a member of the Cochituate Yacht Club at Lake Cochituate. He loved to garden and maintained a garden at the community garden in Wayland as well as at his residence both raising vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed all sports and especially was supportive of all his children’s sports activities. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm. His family will receive family and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to his service at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Private family interment at the Johnson family lot in Lakeview Cemetery will be held at a later date.
