Obituary

Augusta, GA – Douglas H. Rupprecht, beloved husband of Mrs. Frances P. Rupprecht, entered into rest on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Doctor’s Hospital.

Doug was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 11, 1913. He was raised and educated in the north and came south during the great depression where he began a 36 year career in the textile business. He came to Augusta in 1936 and was employed by the Clearwater Finishing Plant. During World War II, he served four years in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater and attained the rank of Captain.

In 1954, he married Frances Prescott Rupprecht and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They began their marriage life together in Cuba, where Doug managed a dye printing plant. They remained in Cuba until Fidel Castro took over the country. They briefly lived in Jamaica, Union, S.C., and later Mooresville, N. C., where Doug retired from the textile industry in 1972.

Doug and Frances enjoyed a wonderful life together traveling throughout the United States and several trips to Europe. For many years they lived in Leesburg, FL., and also at a mountain cabin near Hendersonville, N.C. Doug enjoyed tennis, gardening, and crafts. He stated on many occasions that marrying Frances was the best decision he ever made. They returned to Augusta in 1989 so that Frances could be near her sisters, who lived in Augusta.

Doug is survived by his wife, Frances, nephews Ronald T. Olding, Jr., Andrew G. Popely, Milledge G. Murray, Roderick Eastin and nieces Anne M. Barton, Jane P. Hager, Bonnie Gepfert and Judy Parker.
