Obituary

Mary E. (Fisher) Adams, 95 , of Mattapoisett, died March 25, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital.She was the wife of the late Charles A. Adams.

Born and raised in Holliston, the daughter of the late Charles D. and Mabel F. (Vaughn) Fisher, she had moved to Larchmont, New York for several years following her marriage, before moving to New Bedford in 1942 and then to Mattapoisett in 1961.

Mrs. Adams was a graduate of Boston University class of 1927 majoring in Music and Math. She next attended Simmons College for a degree in Library Arts after which she created a Library for LaSalle College so that they could be accredited. She then became the librarian of the Jones Library in Amherst, MA which served the town and the many area colleges.

She was an active member for many years of the First Unitarian Church in New Bedford, where she served on the Board and was a member of the Couple's Club, the Sewing Circle and the Women's Alliance. She and the late Esther Bridgman instigated the "Book Club" which flourishes still.Mary's love of music, piano and jazz, bridge, family and friends gave her much pleasure. She was a library volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital for many years, and was a member of the Library Associates at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. She was also a member of Sigma Kappa sorority, the Eastern Star and the Mattapoisett Women's Club.

Survivors include a niece, Marilyn Flood, and her husband Nathan, of Mattapoisett; a nephew, Edward Jester, and his wife Linda, of Mattapoisett and Florida; a grandson, Kenneth S. Flood, and his partner Alan Schmidt, of California; a dear family friend, Lisa Ayotte of Rochester; a sister-in-law, Lina F. Fisher of Florida; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was the grandmother of the late Richard A. Flood, and sister of the late Robert D. Fisher, Charles D. Fisher, Merle V. (Fisher) Jester and George F. Fisher.

Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 1 PM in the First Unitarian Church, Corner of Union and County Streets, New Bedford.
