Obituary

WORCESTER-Edward J. Reidy, 87, of Worcester died Thursday, January 19th in Autumn Village. He leaves his companion of 40 years, Phyllis Handy; three sons, Michael Reidy of Sandwich, Joseph Reidy of Rutland and Timothy Reidy of Colorado; two daughters, Susan Huntington of Martha’s Vineyard and Carolyn Ruberti of Leominster; a sister, Marilyn A. Cate of Ogunquit, ME; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He also leaves Phyllis’s children, Elaine Dollins of Bedford, NH, Marie Conant of Sturbridge, Mark Handy of Texas, John Sanger of Seattle and Bruce Sanger of Worcester and her seven grandchildren. A brother, James B. Reidy predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph J. and Mary E. (Phillips) Reidy and lived here most of his life. Mr. Reidy graduated from the former Classical High School and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during WWII. He worked at Simplex for over 40 years and retired in 1983 where he was serving as the branch manager in the Worcester Office.
Mr. Reidy’s favorite hobbies were boating, fishing and camping at Lake Winnipesaukee. He was a member of Lake Winnipesaukee Sportsman Club, G.O.A.L. Action League of MA and the National Wood Carvers Association. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council.
The funeral is Tuesday, January 24th at Noon in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. A visitation period will be held from 10:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Road, Casco, Maine 04015.
