Marie A. (Lawrence) Kriek, 84, formerly of 281 State Street, New London, died Tuesday evening at Mystic Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mystic where she had been a resident since January.
Mrs. Kriek was born in St. Martin, Caribbean Island, on April 15, 1919 one of 12 children to Louis and Eselene (Gomes) Lawrence.
A longtime resident of new London, she was employed in the packing department of Sheffield Tube Co. for many years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting and crotcheting and was known as a wonderful cook.
Marie was married to John T. Kriek at the New London United Methodist Church on July 22, 1961. He died June 10, 1980.
She is survived by her sister and caregiver, Audrey A. Pont of Stonington, another sister, Edith Lawrence of St. Martin, and a brother, Fred Lawrence of New London, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 8 other siblings.
Her Funeral Service and interment will be conducted at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London on Tuesday at 11am. The Rev. Lisabeth M. Gustafson, Pastor of the Old Mystic Baptist Church, will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
