South Lawrence – Verne E. Eddy, 83 died Wednesday January 11, 2012 at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Mr. Eddy was born April 27, 1928 in Hanover, NH the son of Earl and Esther (Barton) Eddy.
As a young man he moved to Townsend Vermont to help his grandparents work the family farm and graduated from Townsend High School. Then went to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1947. He was in the first graduating boot camp unit at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas, then stationed in Guam.
Verne had been employed with the James Devine Construction Co. and retired from the J.F. White Construction Co. as an operating engineer.
Verne was a member of The International Union Local 4 Operating Engineers since 1954. He was recognized for 50 years of Faithful Service. He was also a member of Methuen’s John Hancock Lodge AF & AM and served as 3rd degree Master Mason.
Every Christmas Eve he would transform into Santa Claus working tirelessly through the night to bring much joy to his family and friends. One of his favorite retirement past times was going to Foxwoods. He always loved to make time to do someone a favor and lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his partner in life, wife of 61 years, Yvonne (Bourassa) Eddy, and children Edward Eddy and wife Lorna of Phoenix, Arizona, Susan Coco of Lawrence, Earl and wife Barbara Eddy of Dracut, Ma. son-in-law Barry Daley of Lawrence, 10 grandchildren; Lori, Christine Jonathan, Rachael, Christopher, Eric, Stephen, Michael, Colleen and Carolyn, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Verne was predeceased by his daughter Linda Daley, brothers Walter and Jack Eddy and his sister Ruth McCoubry.
A Funeral Service will take place on Monday morning at 11 o’clock from the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen and burial will be private.
Friends will be warmly received on Sunday from 2-6 PM at the funeral home with Masonic Services taking place at 5: PM.
