E. W. “Jack” Whitehead, 85, of Tifton died Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with a private family service and burial to be held at a later date.
Mr. Whitehead was born on January 21, 1926 in Odum and was the son of Earnest Whitehead and Sally Ford Whitehead, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gay Whitehead; two sisters; and one brother. He retired from Georgia Power Company after 38 years and was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at the Georgia Agrirama, where he enjoyed being part of the syrup-makers group. He was also a veteran of the Army Airborne Corps.
Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife, Jackie Withrow Whitehead of Tifton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Pam Whitehead, Ronnie and Debbie Whitehead and Barry and Nancy Whitehead, all of Tifton; and six grandchildren, Justin Byrd, James Byrd, Jacklyn Byrd, Clint Whitehead, Taylor Whitehead and Kelsey Whitehead.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Forward in Faith Building Fund, First Baptist Church of Tifton, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
