In Taunton, January 10, 2012 Mary (McAloon) wife of Maurice LeVasseur died at Marion Manor Nursing Home peacefully at the age of 81. Born in Taunton, Mary was the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude (Merriam) McAloon. She was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1947 and received her bachelor’s degree at Bridgewater Teachers College and her Master’s degree at Lesley College. Mary was a retired teacher for the town of Raynham at Lilley B. Merrill Elementary School from 1965-1996 and before that taught in Brockton schools, Catholic Schools St Francis in LaGrange Park IL and St. Elizabeth School in Milwaukee. She was a member of the MRTA, NRTA, Holy Family Woman’s Guild, St Vincent DePaul, Bible Study, CCD Teacher, Eucharistic Minister and a lector all at Holy Family Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, summers on Cape Cod, playing cards, going to mass every day, saying the rosary daily, traveling, reading, directing musical shows and loved teaching. Mary was a recipient of the Marion Medal, Top Hat Certificate from St. Vincent DePaul and a volunteer for the Council of Aging and the reading program to help students at Raynham schools. Mary was the mother of William LeVasseur of Colleyville, Texas. Sister of Ann Mador and her husband Joseph of South Chatham, Joseph McAloon and his wife Ellen of Perry, Georgia and the late Dr. Frank McAloon and his surviving wife Marion of Sanbornton, NH, Robert McAloon and his surviving wife Evelyn of Naples, FL. Aunt of Many nieces and nephews. Funeral will be from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Saturday, January 14th at 8:45 AM. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Family Church in East Taunton at 10 AM. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-7 PM. Interment St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton.
