Obituary

Richard P. Viens, 75, of Worcester, died on Sunday, January 8th in Saint Vincent Hospital.

His wife of 32 years Barbara J. (Laukaitis) Viens died in 1997. Mr. Viens is survived by a daughter, Debra M. Derosier and her husband James of Spencer; two sisters, Joan Greene and Eleanor Brady both of Worcester; two grandchildren, Jason Soderblom of Worcester and Crystal Derosier of Spencer; a great grandson Mathew Morrow and many nephews and nieces.

Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late L. Arthur and Johanna E. (Kigas) Viens and is predeceased by a son Thomas W. Soderblom who died in 2010. He is a graduate of the former Worcester Commerce High School and served in the United States Army.

Mr. Viens worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years at Standard Auto Wrecking Company and loved camping, fishing, working on cars and fixing anything possible.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 12th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Peter’s Church 931 Main St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 11th in the funeral home.
