TEWKSBURY - Harold A. Hawkes, age 82, a resident of Tewksbury for the past 57 years, died peacefully Monday morning, January 9, at Wingate at Lowell, with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Claire A. (Brabant) Hawkes, with whom he had celebrated a 61st wedding anniversary this past March 4th.
Harold was born in Cambridge, September 19, 1929, one of five children of the late Harold Sr., and Leta (Bowen) Hawkes. He was raised in Cambridge, and lived in the Pinehurst section of Billerica, before movin to Tewksbury in 1954.
He worked as a machinist for Woburn Machine, Wang Laboratories North Street facility, and later the Mitre Corporation in Bedford.
He was an avid out doors man, with a gift for hunting and fishing, and his favorite activities were hunting or fishing trips with his six sons.
Besides his wife, he is survived by Harold A. Hawkes III and his wife Jane (Thompson) of Charlotte, ME, Dennis Hawkes and his wife Elizabeth ( Mahoney) of Chelmsford, David W. Hawkes and his wife Donna (Coyne) of No. Billerica, Robert K. Hawkes and his wife Lynne (Metivier), Brian W. Hawkes, and Gary A. Hawkes and his wife Denise (Fortier) all of Tewksbury; sisters-in-law, Rita Fortier of Tewksbury, Barbara (DiFasio) Hawkes of Medford, and Marguerite (Raad) Hawkes of Clearwater, FL; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also grandfather of the late Harold A. Hawkes IV; and brother of the late William Hawkes, Richard Hawkes, Robert Hawkes and Gail Dorin.
A Memorial Celebration of his life was held, Thursday, Jan. 12. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or the charity of donor's choice, will be appreciated.
