Obituary


WEBSTER - Roberta A. “Bobbie” (Balchunas) Kac, 63, of Webster, passed Friday, January 6, 2012 in Saint Vincent Hospital with her family at her side.

She leaves her husband of 35 years, Michael Kac; a son, Henry M. Kac and his wife Sarah M. of Dudley; a daughter, Sara M. Reardon and her husband Eric W. of Webster; 2 grandchildren, Olivia M. Kac and Callen M. Reardon; a brother, Ted Balchunas and his wife Mary E. of Ocala, FL; and several nieces and nephews in England and in the United States.

She was born in Southbridge, the daughter of Theodore and Pearl M. (Kowalewski) Balchunas,
and was raised on Cutler Street and at Crest Circle in Worcester. She lived in Dudley for 2 years before moving to Webster in 1978. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Worcester and earned her nursing degree from New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston. She completed continuing education courses at Anna Maria College in Paxton.

Mrs. Kac was a registered nurse. She started her career in the emergency room at the former Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, first as assistant head nurse, then as head nurse and finally as a staff nurse in nuclear radiology. She worked there for 20 years. After, she was on the staff at the Transitional Care Unit at Hubbard Regional Hospital for 6 years, and later was an MDS nurse for Jewish Health Care Center in Worcester, retiring in 2008 because of illness.

She was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church in Dudley and of the Jewish Health Care Center Auxiliary Club. She enjoyed bird watching, playing with her cats and painting. Her special love was spending time with her grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 11, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street, Dudley. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, in the funeral home.
