Obituary

ROCKPORT: Mary M. (Marr) Drohan, 91, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Donald J. “Nick” Drohan who died in November 1976.
Born in Boddam, Scotland on April 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late George and Jessie (Knowles) Marr. Mary came to the United States at the age of two and was a lifelong resident of Rockport. She was a graduate of Rockport High School and the Lynn Burdett Business School. Active in civic affairs, she was a member of the Rockport Housing Authority and the Rockport Building Study Committee. Mary was also very active in the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on the Altar Guild
She is survived by her son, D. Bruce Drohan of Rockport and Jonesborough, TN; her daughter, Sheila Drohan and her partner, Meredith Miklozek of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren, Brian Drohan of Roslindale, Hilary and her husband, Wes Martin of Jonesborough, TN, Ryan Drohan of Rockport and Kalyn Jackson of Ellsworth, ME; one great-grandson, Brendan Martin of Jonesborough, TN; two sisters, Margaret Karcher of Beverly and Elizabeth “Betty” and her husband, Robert “Pete” Speck of Burnt Hills, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, William Drohan and a sister, Irene Williams.
A memorial service will be this Saturday, June 30, in the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 24 Broadway, Rockport at 10 a.m. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 (www.alz.org) or to the charity of one’s choice.
