Obituary

Marlboro, MA
Sal Fabens, 47, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Marlboro, passed after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 21, 2011 at her residence.
She was born in Marlborough, MA to the late Benjamin and Barbara Miles Fabens. She graduated from Marian High School (Framingham) in 1982, and Wells College, Aurora, NY in 1986, where she studied Philosophy and Theater Arts. She went on to receive her Master’s degree from Cornell University in Theater Arts and Women’s Studies in 1989.
Sal’s career spanned theater and the arts for many years. She worked with the AIDS Action Committee of MA, which was always a cause very close to heart. She began her United Way career in Schenectady as Director of Communications, and moved to United Way Worldwide in 2006 to become the Director of Public Relations. Sal’s life and work combined to represent her commitment to helping others wherever one is able.
She enjoyed many things in life, especially those that included her incredibly wide circle of friends. Whether wine-tasting on a tour, grilling for a friend, or planning a get-together for a crowd, she put her heart and soul into her friendships. She also especially loved her beautiful cat, Greta.
Sal was predeceased by her loving brother, Andy, and most recently by her dear and much-loved mother, Barbara. Although her family was not large, her extended family remains extensive and loving.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14th at 2:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Sal will be laid to rest at a later date in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Salem, her family’s resting place at the convenience of family and friends. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to United Way Worldwide www.liveunited.org or AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts www.aac.org.
