Obituary

Bernard Andrews, 90, of Reservoir Avenue, Johnston, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 in Johnston, RI. He was the husband of the late Albina E. (Rafalska) Andrews. They had been married for 62 years until her death in 2004.

He was a Project Engineer for Leesona Corporation before retiring in 1981 after 36 years. He was a navigator in the WWII Army Air Corps and had been shot down over Germany while flying an B-17 bomber. He spent the following two years in Stalag Luft III until liberated by General Patton in May, 1945.

He was a life member of the American Legion, Past Chairman of the DAV, a charter member of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Past Chairman of ASTME, a member of ROA and had volunteered at the VA Hospital since 1983. He was a member of the Cranston Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen E. Talbot of Johnston, a son, Alan D. Andrews of Washington, PA and four grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Joseph Church, Danielson Pike, Scituate.
Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the RI Veterans’ Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, Rhode Island 02809
