Obituary

Mitchell S. Fal, 83, of New Bedford, died Monday March 22, 2004 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Hayes) Demers Young Fal.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Paul and Agnes (Kucharski) Fal, he had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Mr. Fal was formerly employed by the U.S. Postal Service in the maintenance department at the Downtown New Bedford Post Office until his retirement.

During World War II, Mr. Fal served in the U.S. Army with the 1303rd Engineer Service Regiment, participating in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

He enjoyed bus trips to Foxwoods and Atlantic City, and was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan.

Survivors include his wife; 4 stepsons, David M. Demers of Maryland, Peter A. Demers of West Barnstable, Paul J. Demers of State College, Penn., and Joseph P. Demers of Bourne; a sister, Helen Bramwell of New Bedford; 8 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; 2 nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was the brother of the late Frank P. Fal.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford,Thursday March 25, 2004 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday March 24, 2004 from 3-7 PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
