Methuen, MA-George C. Obermeier, 89, died on Wednesday Jan. 4 at Henry C. Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
George was born May 2, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of George and Gertrude (Timmerherm) Obermeier. He worked as a salesman for Lanston Monotype Machine Co.for many years and in 1966 was promoted to the main office in Philadelphia prompting the families move to Cherry Hill, NJ. In 1970 the family moved to Andover, MA where he managed his own company Ober Graphics.
During WW II Mr. Obermeier served his country in the United States Army from 1942 – 1946 before being honorably discharged at wars end.
He was a long time communicant of Saint Monica’s Church in Methuen as well as St. Robert’s in Andover.
George enjoyed golfing, and was an avid baseball fan and football spectator.
He was the widower of Patricia (Stephens) and Mildred L. (Trussell/Dillon). Loving father of Mary Schnoring and her husband Thomas of Osage Beach, MO; the late PFC George Richard; Karen and her husband the late Dr. Robert Bauer of Ossining NY; Denise Schollar and her husband Terry of Florissant, MO; Gregory of Forth Worth, TX, Gary and his wife Dodi of East Boston, MA; Leslie Plona of Lafayette Hills, PA; and Glennon and his wife Carolyn of Lawrence, MA.
Dear Step-father of James, Charles and Kenneth Dillon and his wife Loretta all of Massachusetts and Michaelene Ruggles of Virginia; grandfather of 19; great-grandfather of 10.
George is survived by his sister Louise and her husband the late Gilbert Moore, his brother Arthur and his wife Wanita and brother Eugene and his wife Kay. He is preceded in death by his sister Virginia, wife of Tom Curley.
George was drafted as a catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League (1940) and was a member of the Greater St. Louis Association of Umpires. He endured the loss of a son in Vietnam.
The family greatly appreciates the attentive and dedicated care he received from the staff at Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Arrangements: Friends will be warmly received on Saturday from 4pm – 8pm at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA. Final interment will be in St. Louis, MO.
