Mrs. Marie D. (Swenson) Townsend, a resident of Lawrence, formerly of Andover and beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Townsend died in Lawrence on January 3, 2012. She was 74 years old.
Born and raised in Andover, Marie was the beloved daughter of the late Hilding and Frances (Melvin) Swenson. She was educated in Andover, where she resided most of her life, before moving to Lawrence.
Marie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Andover for many years. Above all Marie was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Marie has gone to join her her husband, Bill, of 53 years who passed away in 2011.
She will be very sorely missed by her loving children; Deborah Townsend of Lawrence, Karen Brown and her husband Jim, of Andover, William “Billy” Townsend, Jr. of Lawrence, Tammy Bailey and her husband Dan of Haverhill, Lynne Townsend of North Andover and Laurie Carlisle and her husband Dan of Lawrence, grandchildren; Sara Brown, Alyssa Grieco, Jennifer Brown, Danielle Grieco, Krystal Townsend and Matthew Carlisle, siblings; Twin sister, Marjorie Dishmon of Chelmsford, Eleanor Faulkner of Bradford, Donald and his wife Joanne Swenson of Andover and Gary Swenson of Lawrence and many nieces, nephews and loving in-law's.
Her funeral mass was celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 20 High Vale Lane, Andover, Friday, January 6, 2012, at 10:00 AM. Calling hours were held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 4 to 8 PM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended.
