John Ezra “Johnny” Young, Jr., 62, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 5, 2012, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Danny Gay officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Young was born July 30, 1949 in Ben Hill County to Ezra and Ruby Bagley Young. He had lived in the community all his life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1968. Mr. Young was a farmer, owner & operator of Silver Bullet Escort Service and was a former employee of CSX Railroad and Delco Remy Battery Plant. He was a former member and past-president of the Young Farmers and had received awards for his farming operations including the GA Money Maker Peanut Club Award. Mr. Young was a member of Prospect Baptist Church and was an avid turkey hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his companion: Liz Wells of Fitzgerald; son: John Daniel “Jody” Young of Fitzgerald and his children: Daniel Young and Karson Young; parents: Ezra and Ruby Young of Osierfield; Jessi Wells of Fitzgerald who was raised like a daughter and her children: Triston Duplain and Lex Omstead; siblings: Linda Roberts of Osierfield, Kenny (Nancy) Young of Fitzgerald and Connie (Derrell) Hampton of Chula as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald Roberts.
