DUDLEY – Joan F. (Edgerly) Vendetti, 78, of Dudley, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge after a long illness.
She leaves her beloved husband of 54 years, Michael J. Vendetti, a native of Leominster, MA; 3 sons, Michael J. Vendetti and his wife Kelly of Fairhaven, NJ, Mark J. Vendetti and his wife Theresa of Columbus, OH, and Paul A. Vendetti and his wife Catherine of Bloomington, IL; and 7 grandchildren, Paul, Alexandra, Regina, Isabella, twins Michelle and Steven, and Tyler Vendetti. She was predeceased by a brother and sister.
She was born in Dover, NH and raised in Amesbury, a daughter of Clarence and Helen (Sullivan) Edgerly. She lived in Burlington, VT before moving to Dudley in 1962. She graduated from Amesbury High School, and then earned an Associates Degree from Fischer Junior College in Boston. While raising her family, she was awarded a Bachelor of Education Degree from Worcester State College.
Mrs. Vendetti was first a homemaker. She then taught the second grade at Charlton Elementary School for 20 years before she retired.
She was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church and a former member of Saint Stephen’s Church in Quinebaug, CT. She was a member and officer of the Dudley-Charlton Teachers’ Association and of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Gamma Chapter. She was inducted into the Nichols College Hall of Fame as an honorary alumna. She also served as president and as treasurer of the Nichols College Women’s Club.
The funeral will be held Friday, January 6, 2012, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road. Burial will be in Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Webster. Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 10:30 AM Friday, January 6, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. & Joan F.
