DAVID C. LAVOIE (BAER)
Passed away peacefully at Inova Mt. Vernon Hospital on December 28, 2011 after a brave struggle with Primary Lateral Sclerosis. He was 65. A native of Winthrop, MA., he had resided in Alexandria VA for the past thirty years. David was a graduate of both Winthrop High School and Boston College, was an avid sports enthusiast and an ardent supporter of both schools’ various athletic teams. He had a great sense of humor, loved to play golf, and always nurtured his “wicked” Boston accent.
David began his professional career as a Bank Examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in the Boston/New England area and later in the Headquarters Office in Washington, DC. After serving as the Director of the OCC Field Office in Denver, Colorado, he joined The Farm Credit Administration in McLean VA as Chief Examiner and retiring in 1997 as the Chief Operating Officer. He was a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of the OCC Alumni Association and a member and past officer of the Santa Claus Yacht Club, a charitable Alexandria organization
He will be dearly missed by his beloved sweetheart, Jeanette Reitz, several cousins, his cherished childhood friends from “up Nawth,” and his many friends and colleagues in both the Boston and Washington areas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Lavoie White.
A Visitation will be held at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop Street, Winthrop MA on Saturday, January 7, 2012, starting at 9 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Winthrop Cemetery. A Funeral Mass for David was previously celebrated at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria VA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David’s memory to the Viking Pride Foundation, P.O Box 37, Winthrop MA 02152, which provides scholarships for Winthrop High School students and supports extracurricular activities.
