Herman L. "Duke" Ransom, 68, of New Bedford, died Saturday March 20, 2004 at the V.A. Medical Center in Brockton after a brief illness. He was the husband of Hilda G. (Gonsalves) Ransom.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of the late Herman L. and Bernice (Riley) Ransom, he was raised in Rochester and lived in New Jersey for many years before moving to New Bedford 7 years ago.
Mr. Ransom was the owner-operator of Ransom Trucking Company in New Jersey until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; 4 sons, Herman L. Ransom, Jr. of Arizona, Michael Ransom of New York, Cleaver Ransom of New Jersey, and George Holiday of Savannah, Georgia; 2 daughters, Lynn Ferreira of New Bedford and Gail Jenkins of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a sister, Audrey Allen of Hartford, Connecticut; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Dorothy Belle.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday March 25, 2004 at 10 AM in the Calvary Pentecostal Church, Braley Road, East Freetown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday March 24, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
