Obituary

WORCESTER-Robert H. Thayer, 81, of Worcester, died Saturday, December 31st in his home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife, Simone T. (Mercier) Thayer; five sons, James E. Daigneault of Riverside, CA, Robert L. Thayer of Worcester, Mark E. Thayer and his wife Deborah of Leicester, Stephan R. Thayer of Auburn, and Jonathan W. Thayer and his wife Ella of Worcester; two daughters, Pamela J. Welcome and her husband Richard of North Oxford and Brenda L. Thayer of Worcester; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Audrey P. (Daigneault) Thayer, a son, Scott A. Thayer in 1969 and two sisters, Shirley Miller and Elizabeth Barry.

He was born in Worcester, the son of Harold T. and Lillian M. (Erickson) Thayer and graduated from the former High School of Commerce. Mr. Thayer owned and operated Quick Deliveries, a local trucking company and Twice Around Furniture in North Oxford. Robert was an avid historian, committed genealogist, and published poet. He placed 3000 flags at the graves of veterans annually and was an esteemed member of the International Poetry Society.

His family would like to extend a special thanks to UMass Memorial Hospice and Robert and Tina for the exceptional care they provided for Robert.

The funeral is Wednesday, January 4th with a service at 10:00 A.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, January 3rd from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
