Edmund L. Kapust
Retired Billerica House of Correction Deputy Sheriff
TEWKSBURY: Edmund L. Kapust, age 79, a resident of Tewksbury for 51 years, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, with his family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy M. (Doucette) Kapust, with whom he celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on August 18, 2011.
Born in Boston on February 20, 1932, he was the son of Frank Kapust and the late Pauline (Kuncius) (Kapust)Rachauskas.
Ed was raised in the Dorchester area of Boston, attended Dorchester schools and graduated from Dorchester High School.
Following graduation, Mr. Kapust served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the ROK Presidential Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Deputy Sheriff by the Massachusetts Department of Correction in Billerica, where he worked for 18 years. Mr. Kapust previously worked for the Laboratory for Electronic Company in Waltham.
Ed was a communicant of St. Williams Parish of Tewksbury. In addition, he was a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and visitor to the Senior Drop-In-Center.
Mr. Kapust enjoyed traveling with his wife and family especially to the Caribbean, woodworking and tinkering in his workshop.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his four children, Michael E. Kapust and his wife Mary (Rae), David L. Kapust and his wife Paulette (Narus), Debbie (Kapust) Sugrue and her husband Arthur all of Tewksbury and Linda (Kapust) Baylis and her husband Daniel of Salem, NH; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Matthew, Christopher and Brian Kapust, Patrick, Ryan, Danny and Kelli Sugrue, Janelle and Ashley Baylis; one sister, Lydia Skope of Dedham; one brother, Ronald "Sonny" Rachauskas of Michigan ; also many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kapust was the brother of the late Albert Kapust and Allan Rachauskas.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
