Obituary

Mary Julia (Kincaid) White, 88, of Sandown, NH, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 in the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, NH. She was born on January 8, 1923 in Maplewood, WV to Asa and Blanche (Scott) Kincaid. She graduated from Nuttal High School and had Secretarial training at Charleston Business College in West Virginia. She worked in an insurance office before marriage and becoming a full time mother and homemaker.
She married Woodrow Wilson White, son of Oliver Paxton (Sheriff of Lewis County, WV) and Delphia Mae (Douglass) White on May 12, 1945 at Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charleston, WV. Wilson was a Research Chemist in high polymers. His career required several moves over five different states, WV, TX, LA, CT and OH. Fortunately, they resided in Oxford, CT for over 30 years, resulting in their four children never needing to change grammar schools.
Mary Julia held many church and civic offices including Deaconess of Oxford, CT United Church of Christ. She was a Girl Scout Leader and den mother. Her hobbies included collecting and making wreathes of pine cones; taking, collecting and displaying pictures of family and scenes; and flower gardening. Her home was always available for exchange students, foreign and domestic, to Consultants with her husband’s employers, ministerial candidates for the pulpit of the Oxford Congregational Church.
She is survived by Wilson, her husband of 66 years, a daughter, Mary Jeanne Brown, RN of Culver City, CA; three sons, David Wilson White, PHD Chemist of Clintonville, WI, Wayne Douglass White, MD (with practice in Derry, NH) of Sandown, Warren Franklin White, Rtd Director of Sun Microsystems of Conifer, CO; seven grandchildren; one great grandson; and her sister, Herma Gay Claypool of Salisbury, NC.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday December 28, 2011 from 4 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. Services in Connecticut will be handled by Miller and Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Julia’s memory to Amedisys Hospice, 1E Commons Drive, Unit 31, Londonderry, NH 03053.
