Obituary

WILLIAM “WALTER” THOMPSON, 80, of Louisville, passed away on December 23, 2011 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.

He was born December 5, 1931 in Cecilia, Ky. He was retired from Ralston Purina after 39 years and is a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Among his many loves in life, he was an avid UK fan and spent many years coaching baseball at Valley Sports. He was a long time member of St. Clement Church and a present member of St. Peter the Apostle Church, where he was also a member of the Friendship Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia Thompson, his brother, F. J. Thompson, and two sisters, Helen Hart and Janie Dotson.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sue Thompson; sons, Billy (Debbie) and Kevin (Carmen) Thompson, of Louisville; daughters, Debbie Yost (Gary) of Louisville, and Jennifer Thompson (Matt) of Mt. Washington, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and three great grandchildren (including twins), on the way. He is also survived by three brothers, Charles and John Thompson of Louisville, Kenneth Thompson of Cecilia, Ky.; three sisters, Anna Marie Thomas of Hodgensville, Ky., Ruby Cecil of Vine Grove, Ky. and Mary Clara Cobb of Upton, Ky.; plus many, many nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5431 Johnsontown Road with burial in Bethany Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1- 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
