Obituary

Mr. Raymond J. Roy, formerly of Taunton, died Monday, December 19 in the Kimwell Nursing Center, Fall River, following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene M. (Dessert) Roy. He was born 84 years ago in Fall River, the son of the late John and Grace (Picard) Roy. He was educated in Fall River, having graduated from Notre Dame Elementary School and Msgr. Prevost High School, and was also a graduate of the former Bradford-Durfee College of Technology. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a civil engineer for Howard Needles Engineers of Boston, and was previously employed by Tammen and Burgendorf Architects of Boston, Fenton-Keyes Engineering of Providence, R.I., and W.C. Riva Engineers of Providence, R.I. Raymond was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A Taunton resident for many years, he formerly resided in Fall River for several years following his military service. He was a member of the Particular Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Jude the Apostle Parish. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle (formerly St. Jacques) Parish in Taunton.
He leaves: 2 sons: Michael Roy and his wife, Kathleen of North Dartmouth, and Greg Roy and his wife, Marjorie of Raynham; 3 grandchildren: Meredith Butterworth, Daniel Roy, and Sarah Roy; 2 great grandchildren: Leah and Colten Butterworth, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Armand Roy and Theresa Roy, both of Westport, and was the grandfather of the late Kyle M. Roy of Dartmouth.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, on Friday, December 23 at 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friend are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Kyle M.
