Hudson, MA
David J. Quinn, 89, of Hudson, died on Saturday, Dec. 17th at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Juliet (Cabral) Quinn of Hudson.
David was born in Manchester, NH, son of the late James and Maude (Bamford) Quinn. He was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools and was a 1940 graduate of Hudson High School. He received his degree in education from Boston University. He was a member of the football and hockey teams in college and also played football and baseball in high school. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Bombardier/Navigator. He took part in 18 plus missions over Germany during the height of the war. David was the former head coach of hockey at Hudson High School for 23 years and was honored with the naming of the Central Mass. Hockey “Quinn Conference” in his name for his dedication to high school hockey. He was the former Athletic Director for Hudson Schools and former Principal at the JFK Elementary School in Hudson. Besides serving as the hockey coach, he also was an assistant coach for both the football and baseball programs at Hudson High School and was an inducted member of the Hudson High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Inaugural Class. He also was an assistant hockey coach at Groton School and Assabet Valley High School well into his 80’s. He was also enshrined into the Massachusetts High School Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame. David was a long time member of the “Hudson Old Timers Hockey Team” and played his last shift at the age of 85. He was a member of the Hudson Odd Fellows Lodge 154. He will be remembered by family and friends for his dedication, spirit and generousity, especially in the Hudson community.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons, James Quinn of Hudson and David Quinn and his wife Patricia of Hudson. He is also survived by his two loving grandsons, Connor and Camron and many loving nieces, nephews and friends, especially Emily, Adam, Alyssa and Timothy Cabral.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Wednesday, Dec. 21st from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
