Obituary

Josie Christine (Walker) Neves, age 70, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away Thursday evening, on December 15, 2011 at "Epoch at Chestnut Hill" after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Newport Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Albert P. Walker and the late Dorothy V. (Henry) Walker. She was one of the "Fab Five" (the 5 children of Dorothy). She was married to Daniel E. Neves of Newport, RI.

Josie was raised and educated in the Newport Public School System. In 1969 a job opportunity at Avco Printing Company allowed her to move to Boston Massachusetts. She continued her education in Boston and was certified to become an Operating Room Technician for Newport Hospital in Newport, RI and later moved to Michigan to continue her career until she became disabled at which time she returned home to Boston.

Being a young mother during the 60's, Josie was an independent, strong willed, free spirited person who raised 5 children alone. She was determined to instill strength and independence in her children to ensure they were prepared to face the challenges of the world. Josie had a great support system, which was composed of family and many friends.

Josie enjoyed keeping family traditions alive by hosting holiday celebrations and summer activities. She enjoyed playing whist, karate, listening to jazz music, reading and meditating. Josie had an open heart and her home was always filled with fun, laughter, love and people; everyone, young and old, loved to spend time with Josie.

Josie is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth "Kim" McIntyre, Doreen Ryner, Deanna Glover; two sons, Daniel Neves Jr., Pharoah Neves; son-in-laws, Robert McIntyre Jr., Andrew Ryner; daughter-in-laws, Jean Anderson, Kristin Neves; sister-in-law, Judith Walker; 10 grandchildren, Mercedes Neves, Jasmine Neves, Darius Ryner, Dain Ryner, Chance Glover, Cory Glover, Lexis Neves, Nia Neves, Quintin Neves, Ronin Neves; and granddaughter-in-law, Aubrey Neves; 8 great-grandchildren and cousin Leon Jackson as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Proceeded in death by brothers, Alfred Hayden and Albert Walker; sisters Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Smith and Frances Briscoe; grandson Kiet-lee Neves and great-grandson Marlee Neves.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11am
