New Bedford – Walter C. Wood, 81, of New Bedford passed away December 17, 2011 at SE Mass Health and Rehab Center. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Lavallee) Wood to whom he was married for 37 years.
Mr. Wood was born in New Bedford, son of the late Walter I. and Elizabeth (Bennett) Wood, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a member of the Peoples Christian Church where he was a choir member and an avid Bible student. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1951. He was employed by Acushnet Company, Rubber Division for 36 years until his retirement. He also worked for 9 years as sexton for the First Congregational Church, Lunds Corner and 12 years as sexton for the Peoples Christian Church.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a sister: Elizabeth Robbins of NC; and a nephew: Eric Robbins of FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend:
Visitation on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, 10:00-11:00 A.M. followed immediately by funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
Interment in Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
