Obituary

Abington – Winifred (Winnie) Weckbacher 82, died Saturday, December 17. She was the beloved wife of 60 years to John Weckbacher, Sr.

Winnie was the daughter of the late William and Winifred (Henahan) Torpey. She was born in 1929 in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High, Class of 1945.

As a resident of Abington, where she lovingly raised her 10 children, she was a communicant of St. Bridget’s Church, enjoyed bingo, gardening, trips to the ocean and country side. She also enjoyed writing and reading poetry.

In addition to her husband John she is survived by her children John Weckbacher Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Abington, Stephen Weckbacher and his wife Nancy of Abington, Paul Weckbacher of Halifax, Maureen Moody and her husband John Dustin of Abington, Christine Fox and her husband Stephen of Plymouth, Carol Zablosky of Ossipee,NH, Teresa Gillis and her husband Paul of Kingston, Mary Fichera and her husband Daniel of Middleboro, and Anne Foley of Bridgewater, her sisters Kathleen Sneyd and Helen MacDonald as well as 26 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her son-in-law Charles Tautkus, the husband of her daughter, the late Winifred Tautkus, of Hanson.

Her services will be held Friday December 23 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rt. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget's Church, Abington. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Thursday December 22 from 4-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325-0300.
