Augusta, GA – George Calvin Wilson,92, beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen Lindler Wilson for 45 years, entered into rest on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Doctors Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at Platt’s Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Ave. on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Sherrell Dunn and Dr. Mark Sterling officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
George was the son of the late Walter C. and Emma Rebecca Holmes Wilson. He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter A. Wilson and James Woodrow Wilson. Survivors include his nephew, W. Sheridan Wilson (Mary Alice) of Augusta, grand nephews, David Wilson (Coni) of Evans, Jonathan Wilson (Jill) of Valparaiso, IN, Eric Wilson (Tammy) of Bethlehem, GA, grand niece, Cathyle Wilson Caywood of Evans, ten great grand nephews and nieces, and several cousins. George is also survived by devoted caretakers of four years who are his sisters-in-law, Rebecca Lindler, Martha Lindler, brother-in-law, Earl Lindler and his family, and the family of the late John Lindler.
Having been a life-long resident of Richmond County, George grew up on a farm. He continued farming while working at Bowen Bros. Hardware for six years and 23 years at Maxwell Brothers Furniture Co. until his retirement. George loved to grow all kinds of vegetables and flowers. He was a member of the American Camellia Society and he was very much interested in the Family Y. He became a member of Curtis Baptist Church in 1937 and was active in Sunday School.
Pallbearers will be Roy Scarborough, John Douglas, George Hawkins, Richard Fulmer, Barry McDonald, and Curtis Choplin. Honorary pallbearers will be Leon Barton, Joe Brown, and George Fenster.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
