Benvinda M. Fontes, 67

Benvinda M. Fontes, 67,of Mansfield, formerly of Braintree, Randolph, and Scituate, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday December 7, 2011 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.
Born in the Cape Verde Islands on September 5, 1944, she was a devoted daughter of the late Anibal and Maria (Veiga) Fontes.
She grew up and was educated in the Cape Verde Islands, and in 1968 she moved to United States, first settling in Plymouth.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 11 years, Benvinda had been employed as a sales associate at Lord & Taylor in the South Shore Plaza in Braintree for over 15 years. She had formerly worked for over 20 years at Armstrong World Industries in Braintree.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Benvinda enjoyed shopping and fashion. Her favorite times spent were those in the presence of her adoring family and she was especially proud of her granddaughters and their accomplishments.
The beloved mother of Messia M. Fontes and her husband Jose of Mansfield, she was the cherished grandmother of Melanie Fontes and Nicole Fontes both of Mansfield. The dear sister of Jose Fontes of Brockton, Maria Gonçalves of Ohio, Marcelino Fontes of the Cape Verde Islands, Maria Fontes of Scituate, Luciano Fontes of Brockton, Domitilia Monteiro of Brockton and João Fontes of Brockton, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday December 12th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield, followed by Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 11th from 2-5 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Benvinda’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
